Fellowship
Training orthopedic traumatologists since 1993
About the Fellowship
Since 1993, OrthoIndy has been training orthopedic traumatologists. The team, with combined 90 years of experience, includes seven fellowship trained traumatologists (staff trained at Shock Trauma, Harborview, Johns Hopkins and OrthoIndy Trauma). In the 30 years since our fellowship began, OrthoIndy has trained more than 60 board-certified surgeons who have gone on to practice in both academic and community settings across the country.
Fellowship Alumni Practice Locations
In an effort to create a comprehensive training experience, as a fellow, you will be exposed to the management of a large volume of patients. The scope of practice will include acute polytrauma injuries, complex articular injuries, along with fragility fractures, peri-prosthetic fractures, mal-unions, non-unions and a very active reconstructive (total joint) and osteotomy experience.
We have a weekly multi-disciplinary didactic conference. All patient care is under the direct guidance of our experienced staff surgeons. We’ve created a system that allows the fellow the flexibility to be available for a greater number of operative cases (>800 per year).
We have built a team of very experienced mid-level practitioners who are primarily responsible for all ER and floor consults, daily rounds and clinic visits. This allows the fellow the freedom to focus on his/her education and operative skills that will be paramount in their practice post-fellowship. In addition, a large amount of time has been dedicated to research and study.
In 2012, we transitioned our entire trauma program to St. Vincent Trauma Center, a Level II facility. The trauma program at St. Vincent is comprised of many of the same services and physicians that previously provided trauma care at the downtown Level I facility. Since we personally had a hand in building the program we have been able to draw on everyone’s far-reaching experience to create a trauma program that was described as the “best startup trauma program” according to the American College of Surgeons.
