Brent Ambler, Dr. Weber’s physician assistant (PA), was born and raised in Anderson, IN. He began college at Indiana University, but transferred to Ball State University to double major in athletic training and exercise science/wellness. He graduated in 2001 and took a job at Jasper County Hospital, where he utilized both of his degrees. Brent was director of fitness at the KV Health Centre and an athletic trainer at West Central High School. While he enjoyed this work, he quickly realized he wanted to do more with his life, which is when he decided to pursue a career as a PA.
In 2005, he attended a small PA school in Connecticut called Quinnipiac University. Its program is 27 months and offers a masters of science degree. After completing school in 2007, he decided to return to Indiana to be closer to friends and family. PA school was an opportunity for him to further himself, but he quickly realized he still had a passion for orthopedics. Brent has been a PA since 2008 and has worked with Dr. Weber since 2010. He feels that they are a great team because they both enjoy taking care of people.
Brent married his wife, Dawn, in 2009. Dawn stays home with their twins, Madelyn and Brayden, who were born in May 2011. Brent and his wife enjoy traveling and outdoor activities, like camping and hiking. Most of their free time is spent taking care of the twins. Brent says, “it is an exhausting, amazing experience.”
One of the common questions Brent gets is, “What is a physician assistant?” Brent says, “PA’s are health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with their supervising physicians. PA’s deliver a broad range of medical and surgical services to all populations in any specialty of medicine. As part of our comprehensive responsibilities, we conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery and prescribe medications.”
