Dr. Hellman graduated cum laude from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1981. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan College of Medicine in 1985 and became a resident in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit in 1990.
Dr. Hellman spent two years as an orthopedic surgeon at Suburban Heights Medical Center in Chicago before accepting a one-year fellowship in adult reconstructive orthopedic surgery at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was a visiting fellow at the University of Bern in Bern, Switzerland for two months. He then joined the staff of Indiana University as an assistant professor in the department of orthopedic surgery from 1993 to 1999.
Dr. Hellman joined OrthoIndy in 1999. Dr. Hellman has given numerous presentations and has authored many articles on arthroplasty of the hip and knee.
